It's October, already?? Time just flies by! We are doing pretty good. I started back to work last Monday and it was definitely sad, but we are soooo fortunate to have the support of our families whom are taking wonderful care of both Griffin and Alayna. And I must say that they both really enjoy their time with Mamaw, Papaw, and Nana (as well as all of their Aunts and Uncle). Nothing like being spoiled 7 days a week!! Alayna is 3 months old today, and I just can't believe how quickly the time has gone by and how quickly she is growing and developing. She is now sleeping ALL night long (knock on wood), she goes to bed around 8pm and is waking up between 7 and 8 am!! How lucky am I? And last night she was intentionally reaching out and grabbing a hold of the toys hanging from her bouncy seat!! I can't believe it. I heard some music coming from her chair and thought to myself "well I didn't touch the Lion" and then saw her reach out again and pull the little circle to make the Lion sing again. It takes quite a bit of concentration on her part to control those little hands, but it is so sweet to watch!! Griffin is doing great in preschool. He had a bit of a cold last week, but is recovering well. He only cried on the first day of school for about 5 minutes and then never cried again, and I cried a little on the first day (more like 2 1/2 hours) and then I cried a little on days 2 and 3 as well - but I think we all knew that would happen!!!

Pam:  I love receiving your updates Sam. Sounds like all is well your way. Can't believe Alayna is 3 months old already. That flew by. She is sweet as ever. Keep those photos coming . I really enjoy them.
Glad to hear Griffin is happy at pre-school. I think it is often harder on the Moms to let them go!
It is wonderful that you have so much help from your extended family. What a blessing. That should make the transition back to work easier.
Take care and say Hello to everyone! Love, Pam

O.k, today was preschool orientation and I held up well!!! Griffin was great, he was in his class and a little girl came over to him while he was playing and his Nana reminded him that he needed to share and so he went and got the little girl a chair and put it at the table next to him so they could play with the toys together. Isn't that so sweet!!!! On our way to the school he had asked me where his Aunt Tasha was today, and I had told him she was at her school "college" and he asked me "mommmy, when I am bigger like Aunt Tasha can I got to college too!!" - already has a great mind on him!!! Thursday is his official first day at preschool - so we will see how we all handle the event! I will keep you posted.

Today was Alayna's 2 month check up - and she is doing great! She is in the 75th percentile for weight (12 pounds) and the 50th for height (22 3/4 inches). She got three shots and had to have her frenulum (skin under tongue) clipped!! That was the hardest part for Daddy and I, but the doctor assured us that there are no blood vessels or nerves in that area and that the most frustrating part to her was him holding open her mouth and lifting up her tongue in order to get the scissors in. I have to say that it really made a difference, and after he did it she started sticking her tongue out so much further. This will help her to eat better and it could have caused some speech issues if it wasn't taken care of. We ALL made it through, and she is doing quite well.
Griffin has orientation for preschool tomorrow, that will be another traumatic day for Mommy and Daddy and his first day of "school" will be on Thursday. I can't believe it is that time already!! I will keep you posted!

It's been crazy!! Alayna was not even two weeks old and our little Griffin got strep throat!!! Can you believe it? Like it isn't hard enough adjusting to a new sibling, but having to do so with strep throat! Chris and I felt so bad for him, he was soooo sick! But we all did a good job of keeping our germs to ourselves and no one else has gotten sick (knock on wood), and Griffin is back to himself. I was brought down a bit by mastitis but it seems that we have worked our way through that as well (could things just be easy?). Anyway, aside from those hiccups we are all doing very well and enjoying our time together. Daddy goes back to work on Tuesday night, after having 3 weeks off, and we will miss him very much. He has taken such good care of all of us, we have all enjoyed every minute with each other!!

She is here!!!! Griffin, Chris, and I are so excited to welcome Alayna to our family. She was born on Monday morning via c-section. The physicians has warned us that c-section babies typically do not cry as much immediately after birth due to the delivery, but of course Alayna came out and let the world know she has arrived as she cried out at the top of her lungs!!!! We were very happy to hear those cries!!! Everything went very very well throughout her delivery and after Daddy held her for a few minutes they brought her close to me and she just nuzzled our noses together as much as she could. The nurses said that was the sweetest thing they had seen. When she first came out even the hospital staff said she had red hair, but later in the day we could see that it had already changed and is more of a dark blonde with red highlights. Who knows where it will end up, it will probably change many times as she continues to grow.
Griffin is doing very well also. He is so kind and gentle to his baby sister, and the first thing he told her was that she was gorgeous!! He constantly kisses her gently on the head and helps us by telling us he is "watching her" for us. He is definitely taking advantage of the opportunity to get more of what he wants. He knows to just try a little harder or push a little more and he will probably get it at this vulnerable time!! :-) He has had a great time though the past couple of days as he and his Daddy got to go to a Dayton Dragons baseball game together and then he got to go to the Airshow with his Nana and Aunts and Uncle. He is definitely not lacking!
Alayna has been a wonderful baby so far as she is quite the little eater and sleeps very very well!! We feel very fortunate that there are even times at night that we wake her up in order to make sure she is eating often. I would say that I wake up about twice a night and we are up for a little less than an hour and ready to go back to sleep. Both of our children have been very patient and have often hung out in bed with us until around 9:30 in the morning. We couldn't ask for anything more. We will see if it all continues!! We'll keep you posted with everything!!

Tara Sill-Spraul:  What a beautiful family!!! It is great to hear from you and see all the pics. Jack who is 4 had strawberry blode hair at birth, but it changed to more blonde.than red. Lately, as he has gotten older I am seeing more red again and he has those beautiful blue eyes your children have. Congratulations and keep in touch!!! Love ya, Tara
Pam Kiefer:  Congratulations Sam and Chris. So happy to hear of Alayna's safe arrival. I love her name and she is beautiful ( no surprise!). Sounds like Griffin is enjoying being a helper and the big brother. Can't wait to meet her in person. Hope your recovery is going smoothly Sam. Take it easy and try to get plenty of rest. Much love, Pam

We are getting closer!!! The baby room is finally painted (pink of course) and we are starting to get it decorated a little bit here and there. We are very much looking forward to meeting the baby. Griffin is amazing as always. Tonight he had quite the melt down in the car as we were driving to the grocery store. Just screaming at the top of his lungs because he didn't want to go and he wanted a "treat". I would turn the radio up load to drown out the screaming and he would yell at me to turn it off "it's hurting my ears" - and then I would reply that his screaming was hurting my ears. None the less, he finally calmed down and asked if he could have a cookie when we went inside the store. I told him that he could not because of the way he had been acting during our drive. He said he was all better now - and I explained that I was not and I was not happy. We got inside the store and he asked if I was happy now? I said no I am not happy now, he said o.k. will you be happy in a little bit? I replied yes in a little bit. So I heard his little voice (under his breath) counting to 3 on his fingers. He then said "o.k., mom are you happy now?" I replied again "no, not yet" because I knew that upon agreeement I would get the request for a cookie. And he said o.k. mom but I am counting to three and waiting a little bit, will you be better soon? - Can you believe this kid? Too cute! But I stayed calm and collected and didn't give in. This went on for quite a bit of our grocery trip and then towards the end I had agreed that I was getting better and he said "Mom, give me one of these!" -and he gave a huge grin from ear to ear showing me his teeth - he wanted to see me smile!! I of course, could help but smile back at him and he reached out and gave me the biggest hug and said "Ooohhh Mommy!!". What a stinker!! You just have to love him sooooooo much!! Well, we do anyway!!:-)

Can you believe that Griffin is 3!!??? It is beyond me! He was such a ham at his picture session- making everyone laugh and he was displaying all of his poses (the favorite was the thumbs up with a "hey buddy!") He is just so much fun - ALL THE TIME!! He has had one full week of accident free diapers (atleast with peepee) and we are just so proud of him. We have also been shopping pre-schools and Griffin is looking forward to going to school. When we showed him one of the schools and explained the routine of the school day - he said "o.k. Mommy but don't 'eave' me" (by the way, I'm not sure if I will be able to myself). Anyway, with my true emotions hidden we explained to him that Mommy would drop him off before work, and while I worked he would play and then when he was done playing his Daddy or his Nana would come a pick him up and take him home. He seemed to agree that this was an o.k. idea - Let's hope it works!!
The baby is doing well also, although she is very very active. One of my fondest memories of this pregnancy will be from this past week when I had to fly round trip to Philadelphia in one day for a business meeting. This little one does not like her "space" invaded in the least bit. Due to tight quarters on one of my flights, my right arm was resting a bit on my belly and my left on the armrest (the armrest on the right was unavailable) - well she was not happy with this and she proceeded to kick or punch until I removed my arm (my arm was actually moving or bouncing up and down). So I moved my arm for a minute, and then rested it again - and immediately she began the process all over until I decided to go the rest of the flight with my arm propped up on my head!!! Can you believe this? I must have looked a little odd, but it was more comfortable than being kicked for the next 30 to 45 minutes. Too funny!

Last week was crazy!! A week ago Wednesday I was working with my boss when I got a phone call from Mom stating that there was an accident and Griffin fell and hit his head. I had to drop my boss off at his car 1/2 hr away and then head to the hospital to meet Griffin, Mom, and Chelsea in order for Griffin to get a staple put in his head!!! A STAPLE!! It ended up being much better than stitches. He had it in for 1 week (did very well) and then when we had it removed he asked for another one - (NO THANKS!). What a boy! Also that week we received a phone call that the doctor was concerned for our baby, and they had scheduled for us to see a perinatal specialist early the next week. It was one of the worst weekends we have experienced. Fortunately, all went well at the appointment. They did some genetic counseling and then a 1.5 hr ultrasound which showed everything to look very normal and healthy as well as the fact that we are having a Girl!! We are very excited to be having a little girl and so is Griffin, he already says that his baby sister is sooooo CUUUTTE! We are even more excited and relieved to find out that things are looking good in terms of her development. Do to our excitement and relief from the good news we have taken a little breather and have not made any decisions on names, but we will keep everyone posted! Thanks for keeping in touch!

We just had an ultrasound at 16 weeks. It was so nice and reassuring to see our growing baby! Griffin was with us and did not like to see Mommy laying on the table with the wand to her belly. He said to me "mommy you are not sick, don't lay down!" with much distress. All in all it turned out well and he left holding the pictures of our newest addition calling it "My baby". He is going to be a proud big Brother. The words from the Ultrasound tech are that the baby looks good (from her eyes) and is measuring on target. The current weight is 6 ounces!! It is amazing how much it will grow in the next months!! What a miracle!

Cindy Kerr:  WOW! CONGRATULATIONS! What a perfect family. We are all thrilled that the Sill family is adding another one to its brood. She is bound to be a gorgeous as Griffin is cute. Since Griffin decided to enter this world on Mom's birthday, perhaps the new little one will grace us on Grandpa Sill's/Kyle's/Matt's day of July 13 or Scott's on July 18.

Enjoy each moment. Sleep as much as you can.
    Take care,
    Cindy

Mom and Dad Papanek:  I think this is the first time on an Ultrasound that I could make out the entire baby. Baby Terry looks bigger than 6 ounces. We are so happy for the three of you and it's wonderful how you update everyone.

Happy New Year!!!! Christmas was awesome! We got to celebrate Chelsea's graduation from Miami University, as well as have Aunt Nej (Jen) and Zach home too!! Griffin and Zach had a great time and as you can see they visited Santa together and did great - smiles on both sides!! Griffin had begged to see Santa again so we all waited in line and the boys were fantastic - it was a blast! Griffin and Zach are great buds and I look forward to seeing their relationship grow as they get older! Christmas Eve with Chris's family was at our house and we were overflowing with presents. Griffin and Izzy had a great time and loved all of their gifts (as well as each others!!). Griffin put out cookies and milk for Santa as well as some carrots for the reindeer, and guess what - they all were eaten!! Chris and I had a great time watching him open his presents and say thank you to Santa for each and everyone of his gifts. He is just so sweet - well most of the time! He really got into the spirit of wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and then shortly we moved on to Happy New Year and ofcourse the 1st being Chris's birthday we were also saying Happy Birthday to Daddy. So now, Griffin is often wishing us (at bedtime and goodbye's) Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, Happy Birthday. In that exact order and to all of us!! It is quite a riot. I hope all of you had a wonderful Christmas - we did and we are looking forward to next year to be able to spend Christmas with Griffin and the new baby as well!!
